Parliamentary Lawyers Program – RECORDING

Due to the strong interest in last week’s “Author Chat,” the American College of Parliamentary Lawyers has made the recorded program available online. The free program includes a discussion of my latest books, changes in the new Robert’s Rules of Order, different parliamentary manuals (and why they are important), parliamentarians, some parliamentary history, and more.

The program can be found at:

ACPL Educational Webinar – “Author Chat with Attorney & Parliamentarian Jim Slaughter”

The American College of Parliamentary Lawyers is hosting our first free educational webinar for any interested parliamentarians or attorneys next week on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 7:30 pm EST via Zoom. The webinar will be a conversation with ACPL’s first President and author Jim Slaughter, JD, PRP, CPP-T.  The zoom registration link for the webinar is at the end of this message.
Please join us for a discussion with Jim about his latest two books, Robert’s Rules of Order Fast Track and Notes and Comments on Robert’s Rules, Fifth Edition. While the books complement each other, they have different purposes and audiences. Robert’s Rules of Order Fast Track, released last summer, is a quick go-to guide that provides details on the most used motions, appropriate informal procedures for committees and smaller boards, and general advice for shortening meetings. It was the #1 “hot release” in its Amazon category and has been selected as an “Editor’s Pick” as “a book of outstanding quality” by the reviewing side of Publisher’s Weekly. Notes and Comments on Robert’s Rules, Fifth Edition, released last fall, uses questions-and-answers to cover the most misused and asked-about parliamentary provisions, including those that apply to larger membership meetings, and also compares and contrasts RONR with other major parliamentary manuals. Notes and Comments has also been selected as an “Editor’s Pick” by the reviewing side of Publisher’s Weekly and has received the Phifer Award from the National Communication Association.

Jim is President of Law Firm Carolinas, which has six offices across North and South Carolina. He is also a Professional Registered Parliamentarian, Certified Professional Parliamentarian-Teacher, and past President of the American College of Parliamentary Lawyers. He is the author of four books on meeting procedure, including two published in 2022 based on the new Robert’s: Robert’s Rules of Order Fast Track and Notes and Comments on Robert’s Rules, Fifth Edition. Jim is one of the most accomplished parliamentarians in the county and has served as parliamentarian for many of the largest associations in the country, including the National Education Association, AFL-CIO, and American Nurses Association.

I hope to see you all next Tuesday on the webinar.
